24k mile 320/6 HAS to be broken (enough to make you cry..)

I don't know how many of you out there have spotted this on ebay, but I needed a few things for my new car so I gave them a call......

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E21-BREAK ... 5af2732e8e

I needed a better carpet, an electric mirror switch, and those rear opening windows, so don't expect to find those, but what i didn't expect to find is a car with absolutely NO reason to break! The car has a genuine 24,398 miles, and I have no doubt would sail through an MOT. The body isn't perfect, apparently it's been sat in a barn ( I know, another "barn find" right?) but this is the real deal. There's rust spots on the body were crap must have fallen on the car and damaged the paint, but essentially it needs a respray and nothing more. There is no rot on the sills, the jacking points, anywhere you'd expect to see some. It's a none sunroof car with a near perfect shell. e_surprised

The back seat still has the remains of the protective plastic covering, which suggests nobody has ever sat on it, and the boot... well, there is no sign anything has ever been placed in it ever. The paintwork in there is flawless, the spare wheel cover is perfect, the carpet is perfect, the spare wheel has never been out , and the plating on all metal parts is spot on. The engine bay needs a good clean, but nothing more than light surface corrosion. Underneath is much the same, light corrosion on the subframes and suspension parts, nothing more.

Here's some pics I took:

I wasn't greedy, I took only what I needed, and the rest is up to you. The yard were totally adamant that this car HAS to be crushed, so pick this sucker clean.

A shame indeed, a car like that would defo fetch good money here. I'd like to have the interior and especially that almost new rear seat but it's not worth the trip or shipping costs I'm afraid :(

I agree Polov, crying shame. I really don't have the time or money for another project, but couldn't see this one go - so clicked on that ebay link to see if I could buy the whole car. Looks like from the advert its not up for sale. Bizarre and heart breaking.

They want big bucks for the parts too. How about the spare wheel, cover & jack? (they won't split) Just £140! :crazy

Yeah, they're the worst possible people to have a car like that, they should stick to breaking late model crap and leave the classics to the enthusiasts.

Fortunately they didn't want the earth for the bits I wanted.

That is very sad indeed... Something like that just HAS to be offered as a whole car first and foremost so someone has the opportunity to rescue it and get it back on the road where it belongs...!!!

By the looks of it it's in better shape than 95% of the E21's on the road. Very sad.

that is a real shame.

Recently I was at the wreckers scouring for e34 bits, and there was an immaculate e12 528i there. Unfortunately the yard had clearly hit it against the e36 next to it while lifting it into place, otherwise I'd have made an offer on the whole car. It had zero rust, and the engine bay was really clean. No idea why it was there, presumably a deceased estate.

I like the idea of a 3.5L e12 to cruise around in.

Amazing stories. I know when more strict environmental legislation was introduced in Germany, similar things happened. Your road tax would be enormous if you didn't have a cat and retrofitting one was real expensive. Then they introduced a premium for sending off your non-cat car to the wreckers and that was the last push to make thousands of perfect cars disappear. Cars that would have been worth a small fortune today.
