E21 VFL?

Hiya there!
Thinking about buying an E21, it is described as a 1978 316 VFL. Can anyone shed any light on the VFL abbreveation? I cannot find anything. It is also a german car if it makes a difference.

VFL means it is a type 1. The BMW E21 has started in 1975 and about 1979 it had a facelift. The facelift is a NFL.
The difference is for example:
* Different dashboard.
* Different Frontspoiler.
* Different mirrors.
* Different types of interior.
* Some differences in suspension etc etc .

Peter is of course right.
VFL is an abbreviation for "Vor Face Lift" = before Facelift, and NFL is "Nach Face Lift" = after Facelift. E21s got their facelift from modelyear 1980; productiondate september 1979.
