DO you have to have the car to register it in Norway? I'm just wondering if you can register, insure etc it with Norwegian plates, go to Italy, fit the plates, and drive it back as effectively a Norwegian car?

Definitely a very impressive car mate!
With the German 5 day or 30 day licenses they say you can travel throughout Europe and you are insured. Have the seller export it beforehand (I believe in Italy this still has to be done by a notary), you arrange the German temporary license based on the Italian registration (vehicle VIN is the most important) which gets you documents, insurance and license plates.
Important notes:
- keep in mind that you're only insured for liability
- for Austrian and Swiss motorways a vignette is required
- in some countries there are special requirements for winter tyres, like in Germany. There's already snow in the Alps and Dolomites.

So, that's a new one indeed. And i was happy with the 17900 km on my car.
The notary which has to sign the car out of italy is indeed. I still have my original papers from Italy .
I send a picture by PM.

I borrowed some trade plates from chum who has the LR dealership on IOM insured Herman under trade plates for Euro travel via NFU and then drove it back from Switzerland.
Had to sit in England for a while until we got a space on the full up ferries to IOM.
No massive problems registering car (once it had eventually passed the horrendous Manx test ) since car had been initially registered in Germany meant that EU taxes were paid on it (VAT). And although IOM is not part of UK nor EU we do via an article respect certain suitable EU Regs!
Wonder if you can do the same in Norway?

There are a few things I don't like. Even though the car looks like an absolute minter, it looks like the seller grabbed the spray can and gave the wheels and brake drums a quick 'n dirty respray. The shiny air filter housing also is far from original but perhaps the previous owner liked that better. Nothing alarming still!

It's an original car with only 12000 km on it, so it's just a good looking car.
