it does seem that it was originally yellow so thats the colour it will go back too, im not sure whether to use the original yellow or bmw dakota yellow from an e36 m3.
i have never seen a yellow e21 in the flesh but from the bits which are still yellow on my car the yellow used at the factory has a hint of green about it which im not too keen on so swinging towards this colour.

With the vinnumber you can determineren it's original colour and find a pic (with help form US here in the forum) of a car in that colour. BMW had two kinds of yellow, Korona and Golf. In belgium is a corona yellow baur. Jeroen once had a Golf 320.

With the E36 color, I guess you mean Dakar yellow? Which is like a slightly faded yellow but oh so beautiful on an E36 M3 Coupé.

Anyway, there are 2 colors as indicated by Koos Uwbuurman indeed. The early Golf has a greenish shade in it, the later Korona is brighter, I really love it and its one of the most rare E21 colors. Your car is an Oct 80 production model and at that time Korona was current.

sorry yes the dakar yellow, it was the e36 m3 that really caught my eye as a teenager in dakar yellow and i think it would suit the baur well, not quite the original shade but not too far off and such a awesome colour.

Your car used to be koronagelb. Personally, I would bring it back to he original colour. Dakargelb would just make it "another E21 in a non-original colour".
