A real C1 has a specific cil. head, and...if the owner knows what he have: He will have a lot off documents for that.
Otherwise: the chance that you will find one is very, very low..
I thought there were only 28 made.

Unless the seller has the documentation to back up the claim then caveat emptor

Alpina e21's were built before alpine was a recognised manufacture so there is little official documentation, also there is a difference between dealer built and alpine built cars. Most purists only recognise the factory built cars and they are probably the only chassis numbers that are recorded.

As far as I know all uk rhd c1's were converted by the dealer twr/synter from base spec 323i's as where the alpina dealer cars, also you could as an individual just buy the parents and convert the car yourself.

Small details are the 4 digit number alpina stamp on the head, a proper spec c1 should have the twin ear diff mount. Apart from yah the usual cosmetic stuff.

In my time I have probably been to see over a dozen alpina e21's and every one has been dodgy basically it is an alpina because the guy they bought it of told them it was.

I'm willing to bet that pretty much every UK C1 is known and if the seller doesn't have definite proof of it being genuine, it probably isn't.

I know there's a restoration project doing the rounds at the moment.

I'm certain they are all known about and ATM I'm not certain on the paperwork but is there any way of finding out for certain wether it might be a dealer/sytner/twr conv

The guy who has it knows his BMW's very well and knows what he has but I also know him quite well.

What codes etc should I be looking for on the head then.

Also any other specific parts that I don't know of?

I don't think Sytner did e21 Alpina, as the e30 was out when they became agents. TWR offered all the parts to convert cars but unsure how many C1 they did and how many had a dash plaque? The handbook should have written section by the service manager. May also show on V5?

I forgot to update, i went to see it and im 99.9% sure its a genuine car........ But there are some bits missing including one huge thing which will detract from its value massively, i wanted this as an investment so originality was key so im leaving it

I dont want to go into to much detail as its not my place and it'll shortly be going up for sale to the masses so ill leave the details to the owner

Wasnt a completely fruitless trip though as ive pretty much bought another e24 instead from the same guy lol
