Just got back from SA this week

It was a different sort of experience for a number of reasons- not least because we didn't bring Butch- so no excuses I really was there ostensibly on business

but as usual a spot of racing got in the way of a straight forward business trip!

I have a new whizzy Laptop which I am trying to organise photos etc- bear with me here............

In short Lots of lovely old BMWS around- (photos to follow)

In Zwartkops JoBurg/Pretoria racetrack I was given a 65 TVR Vixon to race in the TT Enduro photos to follow - anyway we came 2 in class

duly loggoed up!

great fun I had to keep a keen eye on the mirrors with Lolas and GT40s powering by!

We then headed to Capetown
Stayed with Sarel - who has a lovely house in the winelands
helped open a Car museum full of racing Porsches- photos welgelen wine estate

We also went to the opening of a new classic car dealership- turned up in chums Aston- they waved us through and parked up within the dealership! Photos

Anyway chums heard I was without a car for Killarney races in Cape Town
so I was given an MGA with peppy 1600 engine!

I had to fly around the back corners - the GT40s braked at 150 meters I held off until 40 meters! All those years of annoying Porsches slow in and fast out in corners in Butch- I had to drive the other way around!!

Anyway we got a class 2 in the Enduro TT
On the Saturday I managed 4 races in that little car 1 quick 8 lapper then the TT 45 minute and then another 8 lapper sprint race and no differnece to barkes and tyres after all that! Amazing- quite a lot to say for light cars The Piri Piri Rcae team for whom I was driving raced and displayed some amazing cars!
DD brought his Lagonda as pace car for the single seaters painted in same BRG as "my " MGA. As Sarel commented you were upchanging where the GT40s WERE braking!

Met up for lunch on Sunday and Piri Piri brought some of their cars- an amazing old fire engine another Laganda and an MG TD pix to follow

PS I really love my Job!!!

France as requested!!:

Very cold at the top of the world!:

Although the SA link is germane as the chalet is owned by a South African friend who asked us over.

Managed the first 820 miles door to door there at 70 mph ave but 44 mpg= no wind

return yesterday took less than 13 hours for higher ave but "only" 42 mpg. Bless those turbo diesels
