Could be a bum solenoid not fully engaging? Could you post a video of the sound your hearing? I've had to replace a brand new starter unit within 6 months of installation before. Bum units happen.

That almost sounds like the solenoid engaging and disengaging. Maybe your flywheel teeth are shot? I have no idea on that. Might be worth having someone start it while your inspect the area.

Are you sure battery has a full charge? Hook up some jump leads or a booster pack.

If you can, have someone give the starter a good whack with a rubber mallet or piece of wood. Sometimes the motor can stick.

Does the engine bump start ok?

It's a auto, don't think I can bump start it,Im going to get some leads on when I get back, when I've had a dead battery before it hasn't made this kind of racket, but it's possible,I've had a lot of problems starting it last few months which I've sorted now,I'm sure trying to start it a lot hadn't done it very well,I replaced the battery before Xmas aswell but the first thing il check

Also check the engine earth strap. A poor earth can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins.

How do I get a good earth on the engine? Could I use the insulated style earth normally used for battery earth I know they do them at halfords,or does it have to be a original style

Replaced the starter and the starter doesn't fit right it's a Bosch one as they ordered me one instead of Lucas,so but it makes a loud hitting ringing noise
