hi, i need to change one of my handbrake cables for the mot but im struggling to get it off the car. i have pulled the cable out of the drum but it seems that where it goes down the transmission tunnel the cable has a metal outer sleeve which seems to be welded to the trans tunnel. is the new cable suppose to go in the metal sleeve?

There's a metal tube welded to the car. Cable runs inside that, has a plastic thing on the end that plugs the end of the tube up. Have you unfastened the lever end, should pull out easily.

get some vice clips on the metal end that meets the tube going through the body and twist it round a few times.
