Painted Door Handles

Hi all
For a while I was considering putting on some chrome e12 door handles, but after thinking about it I think I'd prefer body matched door handles.
Anyone have experience doing this 'DIY'? Can't be that difficult to key them in, prime and paint with a rattle can? I've always been quite good with rattle cans... could be a nice Saturday job.
