When is a CSL not all it seems

I was vaguely following this CSL since it was held quite close in England and I reckoned on popping over to look at same

But all turned out not to be quite what it seems!

Well done the auction house for disclosing more info on the car which would appear to be a "reshell" of a CSL from a CSA E9. And therefore not only is the chassis plate a non match but also the Reg no!!

Lesson here is not to buy unseen and without regard to proper investigation!

I wonder who "discovered" the truth- did the vendor own up or did the auction house find out??? I suspect some experts (Barney Halse or Munich Legends) tipped them off???

Happens too often. With CSL's but what do you think about E30 M3's, all the limited edition Evo series? The LE plaques are worth a lot as they make the car worth a lot more! Even M3's and M5's of any other series may have started its life as a 325 or 520. Seen way too many of these! And here we recently saw a 1975 323i for sale. Yeah right.

Similar thing with Cobras!

At the end of the run of the Mk3 Cobras 5 long chassied cars were produced for Paramount Studios for a film- they looked like Merc SSKs IN 1968

The very last one is COB 6132

along with many other "film cars" this one was rebodied with a Cobra body by AC in the 70s.

Baring all that in mind 14k for a nice CS isnt a bad price in my eyes, no good if your a purist but if like most of us modifcations arent much of a problem then this was a good buy
