my e28 project

So the E28 i was talking about in my previous post just arrived. its a 1985 520i auto ( :stupidme ). However, the car is in spectacular condition. Hardly any rust, maybe a couple of hundred quid worth of work needed.
I managed to pick it up from south end, got here with no problems what so ever. Previous owner had it for 4-6 months garaged and rarely drove it. He has owned a 525 e28, and bought an e28 m5 brand new from the showroom when he was younger which he sold only a few years ago (he did explain that his father was a very wealthy man, God rest his soul). The owner before him was an older gentleman who had it in storage for 20 odd years, and this was proven by photos that the owner showed me. He has spent around £2000 getting it all running and having countless parts being replaced, from lamps to radiator. The underneath of the car is solid, no rust, all waxoiled where BMW original protected parts.

The journey started a little rough, 2 miles down the road i filled up and the car wouldnt start, the battery died. Unfortunately i forgot my jump leads, so had to purchase some from the petrol station. I took it slow at first as there was a slight wobble in the steering wheel, but as i drove on, the car decided to pull straight and true. after an hours worth of driving, my confidence built, and i started to overtake on the motorway, hitting speeds of 70(+10%) and a little bit more :whistle . There are only a handful of minor problems such as; Wheel wobble randomly starts, slight rust in arches and some panels, reverse light flickers, brake lights are constantly on, rev counter does not work but he has provided me with a working cluster, MPG gauge does not work (hopefully it does in the new cluster), needs a bigger battery, sunroof handle likes to dangle, the 2l engine isnt anywhere near the power it needs, and well.... it is an auto, which is okk for the time being, but will be swapped for a manual which i have sitting in my garage from e30 days. Even though the colour is in good condition, and the interior is mint, they both need to change colours. The colour of the car is beige, and the interior is pooey brown.

If anyone has any idea about how to fix any of these issues, please feel free to share. Over the weekend i will tackle the break lights, reverse lights, some rust, sunroof handle, and attempt to pull out the dash and cluster.

The plans for the car:
Hopefully the car is going in for Air suspension in the next couple of weeks. Then once i get my E21 sold (yes sold, i am sorry) i will have it repainted SEPANG BRONZE :crazy i will finally get my colour without anyone getting a chance to call me a copy cat. As soon as my rotas are sold, i will be purchasing 3sdm 0.05 wheels, these may not be to everyones liking but i feel they have a classic look to them. i need to get front fog lights, and i have a few other subtle but unique mods in mind to put my personality into the car (dont worry, no boyracer mods). other than that, the whole body will remain stock, as well as the interior except a colour change, and a Nardi steering wheel once i can afford it (being a teacher does not pay too well). once i have the car looking how i want, i will pursue to have it running how i want, as a manual, with maybe a bigger engine (this will definitely happen one day). All the grilles will come off and be repainted to give it a fresher look.

I hope i can hang around this forum once i sell my e21 as this forum has been one of the most helpful around, you bunch of nice people! I will keep posting in this thread to keep you guys updated, that is if the moderators dont mind of course.

No problem nas. I paid 1100 for it, was a steal if you ask me. The guy just didnt have time to hold on to it as he is moving very soon and under his insurance policy it wouldnt be insured.

the plan is to leave the body completely standard. No body kits and no funky lights.

Lovely looking car - although the Sepang look has already been done by Pedi from this forum :)

My humble opinion...so what? These are standard BMW colours with no trademarks and it's not like your making a clone of the entire car. Moreover, you're unlikely to drive past the same one in a street.

I actually like that shade of gold and would consider a good quality blow over to remove the rusty bits and will be cheaper than a complete colour change. Be good to follow the progress on this one anyway :thumbsup

Agree with everyone else, nice looking car.
Two years ago whilst driving through St. John's wood london I notice this black e28 parked up with the last tax disc showing 2010, the thing was it was parked up outside a large block of flats so I never new who it belonged too. I left a note on the windscreen and forgot about it. Today a guy rings me telling me the owner as passed away, would I still like to have it, so I brought it. Black 525e, one owner, loads of history and 74000 miles.
