How do you guys go about cleaning up metal parts,
I have twin 40's I'm going to fit when the e21 comes of the road for the winter
I want to clean them up but the metal still has marks is it worth getting some sand paper or is there a chemical that can be used? There getting there but some of those marks are stubborn and I just want them to look pretty as poss when I fit them

Soda blasting or hours with a fine wirebrush

I find a dremel on low speed with a selection of stainless wire brush attatchments works pretty well, but soda blasting is best if you have access.

I would try a soaking in 50:50 mixture of coca cola and Harpic limescale remover to start with!

Sounds like a plan soda blasting would be great but I would have to take them apart I'm guessing

you mean you have marks on the intake manifolds and not the carbs themselves?

It isn't too bad a job to take them apart. IIRC they are alloy if you wanted you could have them polished and chromed?

I ideally would like them just cleaned up as best as possible don't want them polished there of the car I have taken a few bits of in order to clean but still was hard work cleaning and bit worried about going to far with them taking them completely apart in order to dip them

New cleaner found today by accident!

I used BBQ grill cleaner on my alloys to remove brake dust etc since my wheel cleaner was empty

worked a treat!
