Pedal problems.

Hi. Im having problems with my accelerator pedal. i was driving back home from the garage, and the pedal decided to make a snapping noise and it wobbled all over the place. got home and had a look, found that the lever at the end of the pedal was mounted to the firewall with a spot weald, the weald snapped. ill let the pictures explain my issue. It is an e28 520i automatic

The problem is that im confused as to how this mounts to the firewall. any idea guys?
