Depends on the individual I guess? Also depends on the reason why? I had an E30 M3 that I got for less than £10k because it was recorded as a CAT D several years ago and it scared folk off. Had they dug a little deeper, they could have seen it was down to cosmetic repairs outweighing value, when they were worth peanuts.
Personally, if the damage was light, or it's been repaired properly, I would value condition over anything else. It wouldn't take much for a 316 to be written off on paper.
