Can anyone advise how I can remove this panel? I couldn't easily see how to do it

A nasty rattling noise is produced from the point where the upper part of the metal steering column meets this plastic part and I desperately need to stop it somehow!

on the later dash that bit is screwed in behind. you have to pretty much disassemble the whole area to get it off. You know it might even be the clocks that are rattling.

hope not!!
but when I press (while rattling) with my finger, exactly this plastic panel at the midpoint over the steering column, the rattle seems to stop
I also can see some foam (37 years old of course) showing a bit from a crevice between the two parts(panel and column)
So I guess there is something in there that needs some new and fresh sound proofing - and then my car might do one step closer to becoming a Mercedes :-D

I have removed the central dash panel (over the central console) in the past
But I can't see where should I start from for this one..
If there are any screws, it's sure thing they are well hidden :-)

looking at this pic i imagine one of the fixing screws is in the centre of the four switches to the lefthand side

the other side might be tucked behind the side of the heater control panel.you might have to remove the switches and most likely the clocks to loosen everything up for the panel to come out....
