Rattling from rear of car

Hi Guys,

Quite a loud rattling noise coming from the back drivers side. The rattling stops once I get over 2500 revs and sounds like theres something stuck on the wheel thats hitting the inner arch i.e. the rattling slows when the car slows and speeds up with the car - in proportion to how fast the car is moving - like theres a flap on the wheel. I've checked the wheels, and everything is tight, nothing there to be causing it. The car feels fine and still gives me confidence but sometimes its so loud I fear the car is going to fall apart.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Top mounts are they hitting the parcel shelf?

Have you taken the drum off to see whats loose inside?

Have you raised the car and rotated the wheels to see if its suspension or something wheel related?

loose handbrake bits inside the drums or if you have changed the wheels too long wheel bolts sticking through and clicking off the brake springs etc (did that one myself!).

When did this start? Usually work performed is the cause. Exhaust pipe running against the propshaft due to incorrectly located exhaust or broken hanger/rubber is also a common cause.

I'm going to look into all of it. Driving a it more it's coming from the middle of the rear. I was thinking drive shaft uj or exhaust mounts. I'll change both to be sure. It started after I swapped the rear shocks and spring so yeah nas could be the mounts (an excuse to get some camber plates :) , but that wouldn't explain why it gets worse at speed and slows down when I do like I said as if there was a flap attached to something that's rotating hitting something else. If that makes it any clearer ha

Have you changed the wheels / Wheel bolts?

If the bolts are too long then itll be hitting your handbrake mech.

Yeah it was that man. I hadn't tightened the bolt properly either. Got to the petrol station and saw there was only one bolt holding the wheel on... Lucky I suppose
