Engine code-where is that?

Do M10 (and the same question applies for M20) engines have an engine number? My car has never _well, so far :-) _ had any engine conversion done. Shouldn't there exist a number on the block, or somewhere, exactly the same as the VIN on the shell?
Does anyone know?

Thanks
Will check.
Although, from what I see in the drawings, it's really difficult to check down there
