DVLA do a service for a car you are the keeper of. For £5 you can get details of all the previous owners Its form V888.
I found out that the first owner of my Baur owned it from '81 until '93. 2nd owner 6 years, 3rd 9 months, 4th 3 years, then the guy I bought it from had it a month !
While it was registered in Aberdeen, its always lived in Falkirk or Edinburgh - say about 20 ish miles from me.
