my 1979 320i usa model has the bmw cis fuel injection. the fuel line from the distributor to the cold start relay is broken. How do I repair or replace the line.
I tried to search for this before posting. So my apologies if this has already been answered before. I have tried to heat the end of the plastic fuel line and insert the barbed banjo fitting, but had little success using hot water or hot air.
any help is appreciated

Usually there are no fuel lines to relays so you're after either the line to the (additional) cold start fuel injector or one of the two lines to/from the warm up regulator. What engine do you have, the pre facelift 2.0 or the facelift 1.8? A picture of the engine or a VIN would be handy.

sorry, I meant to say cold start injector, not cold start relay. I am looking for a fix and/ or replacement for the plastic line from the fuel distributor to the cold start injector, Mine is broken at the end, right near the banjo fitting. it has the 2.0 liter, 4 cyl motor I don't have the vin number, but if you need it I can find it for you

No problem. Looks like it is NLA indeed, but that doesn't matter, usually there are alternatives. Think I'd go for one with banjo's on both sides, then you need 8mm on dizzy side and 10mm on injector side? What length should the line be approximately?

the original line has banjo fittings on both ends. they are both 8mm with barbed "tails" where the banjo bolts fit into the plastic tubing. the banjo fittings are both in good shape, but according to my local bmw dealer, the fuel lines themselves are no longer available from bmw. I suppose that I could have the local brake shop make a metal line for me with metal brake tubing of a similar size, I was just trying to keep it more stock looking.
the original fuel line is mostly intact. being 35+ years old, the plastic is hard and does not easily soften with heat, or i would soften one end, push the barbed tail of the banjo into the plastic line and use a small crimp on clamp to reinforce the connection.
I was hoping that someone else had come across the same problem and had an easy fix

Sadly I haven't found decent alternatives, but for some versions the old school hose is still available. Sadly current reproductions available for other models have a different finish on the banjo's.

However, last time I ordered, BMW still had the old style 13 31 1 266 616 available which does have two 8mm banjo's and is abt 500mm long, if the length is anywhere near, this might be your oem solution.

Whatever you do, make sure to always fit new copper o-rings on both sides.

First, thank you for all of your help. I used your part number only to find the part no longer available. According to the parts guy they have over 300 of them in Germany, but they are not being shipped to the usa anymore. If that is the case and there are any european member willing to act as a shipping agent, maybe we could work something out.

No problem, if the 500mm is ok I can see if I can still get it in the old style and order it here. We can then work something out using PayPal.

that should be the one. if you can get me a price, i can probably get something made here to take it's place, I have the banjo ends and can have a high pressure hose attached and clamped on both ends. I know that would be a lot easier for both of us. it would save you a lot of hassle.

Need to ask at the dealer's but probably you're looking at abt $50-60 shipped.

I just found a site for vw's they have a braided line for $40 so, again thanks for your help, but it would be easier for both of us if I just get that one

click on repair/replace fuel lines ....the advice in the pdf helped me make new fuel lines for my 77 320i for very little money.Just make sure you buy the correct spec tube. A drill bit that just fits in the end of the original tube will tell you the inside diameter of the pipe you need
