PAS Upgrade

I'm looking into a power steering upgrade to utilise the power steering pump on my new engine.

I've seen people use the E46 'purple tag' rack (3 turns lock to lock).

1) Am I right in saying that a LHD rack will be required for a RHD E21 due to it needing to be turned around?

2) Besides mounting brackets, what else is required? tracks rods modified? steering linkage?

Thanks.
Joe

NAS just listed some E21 PAS gear in the for sale section

I gave up on PAS as couldn't work out how the pump tensioner/bracket went together!

I would usea stock pas rack and a 1.5 steering quickener.

Theres probably a bit less fabrication then swapping a LHD rack and trying to make track rod ends work maybe?

BTW Joe, ya 6cyl subframe will be ready for ya soon.

Neh I'm ok with my steering rack as it is. It's not E30 M3 short but ok for street use and not vague or too long.

Oh this will be one to think about then. Looks like they're used in a lot of motorsport applications.
I think the trick will be finding somewhere to mount it and ensuring its straight and doesn't foul the exhaust manifold.

Can't you just use the E21 PAS rack on your conversion then?

Yeah I could but I'd like something quicker tbh.
I'd fancy a non PAS quick rack except for the added weight but making it power assisted gives the best of both worlds.
