I´ve got a 1891 318i which i bought kinda rusty and the interior was crappy but other than that its kinda nice shape. I´ve now fixed all the rust and I´ve got some big plans for this car now. I´ve been reading up quite alot on swapping engine and i would love a M52B28 in it. However, I am also thinking that a turbo conversion of the M10 which I´ve got in it right now would be really cool!

To further make this tricky I´ve seen a number of variants of the engine swap including using a modified E34 rear subframe and I´ve seen people using the E36 M3 gearbox, and heard that people keep the original E21 rear subframe including diff and all. But then how would I solve speedometer, etc.. But i would just love to get a discussion going on M52 swap vs turboconverted M10 (it´s the injection version).

So, what are your thoughts? I´ve personally never made anything like this but i've always been interested in projects like this and have read n watched tons of stuff and being an engineer i´m really interested in stuff like this. and i grew up w a dad who builds americans cars since before i was born. i want to get deep into this asap

M10 turbo!!! M52 is for everyone.

or yet another idea could maybe be to swap to a M42 or a M44 and put a turbo on that one? so still 4 cyl with turbo but maybe a better engine to put time and money into

No man, m10's are really strong and fun to work with. Well, maybe it's just that I am sucker for otiginal, so in my mind an e21 needs a m10 or m20.

When it is about the best drivable car with lots of power I think an e30 is by far the better car. So imho: e21 + m10 turbo or e30 + s54

M10 is a light block, even with turbo. So the car will much more agile in the corners.

E34 sub frame will not work.

E28 will but will. Go read up on it. I started a thread here a while back. Good information

Give the M10 breash conrod bearings and a supercharger. Budget fun imo.

straight 6 noise is the best noise.
