320 carb to injection

Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience converting the 320/6 engine (m20b20) to injection using the inlet/wiring etc from a 323i?

Just wondering does it make much difference?
Is it worth it?
Is it possible?

Cheers Iain

I’ve had similar thoughts, but the research I’ve done makes me believe it is not worth it personally.

You don’t gain much in reliability apparently, as if both are set up correctly they should be similar in these terms.

Then again, parts may be easier to find for the injection engine moreso than our carb’d m20!

I wouldn't convert to K-jet. But L-jet on the other hand...

A ginourmous recommendation to read that topic back and forth and back again.

Hmmm the main reason for converting is that I have all the parts from a 323 to do it!!

Would there be much difference in power

323i’s are 143bhp from factory, up from 120bhp 320/6. That’s from the factory though, so expect some losses.

BertjConti has 140hk out of is 320/6. With a lot better economy.

Yup i did, see my topic M20B20 to megasquirt build

Used parts from a late motronic M20B20, all in all the project was cheaper as a new Solex 4A1.

Drivability improved a lot, relyabillity too, and power also, 130bhp the old M20B20 has now

( see now most photos are gone )

So I get the impression it’s not really worth the trouble for what results will be achieved using the 323 parts

I think you're right

That's why I changed my 320a to M42 power. 142 Bhp, much improved economy - over 40 mpg generally, and a lighter engine over the front wheels. It was a cheap option too !

The M42 weighs about 103kg where the M10B18 K-jet in the E30 was 85,5.

But you might not mean a M10B20 but a M20B20.
