1.8 m10 with twin Weber

Hi all

This has probably been asked a hundred times before but....

I’m looking to get a bit more out of my m10 1.8 carb engine

Currently runs well and totally standard with the zenith 2b4 carb

Looking at ways to get a bit more poke out of it so maybe twin Webber’s is a good starting point?

What carbs set ups are other people running?

**ive got hold of some twin 40’s and waiting on arrival of manifold

Ive read some good threads on here and leads me to believe that sourcing a 318i e30 is the way to go when running twin Webber’s

Is it best to change the head to make it a worth while conversion?

Can anyone recommend the best head to use? Is there any particular year 318i that I should avoid

Going to stick with a carb but maybe a decent Weber and upgrade the exhaust manifold??

I'm not an expert but from what I understand the 1.8 in the 316 has small ports and valves for better fuel economy and so not sure that twin Webers will help that much.

Yes that’s what I thought

Am I right in thinking the head from a e30 318i would be the right way to go with twin Webber’s?

I have got hold of a set of twin 40’s so it’s now looking at what options there are regarding the head I think

If this is the route you want to go, take the block of the E30 as well since it is lighter. Plus you are sure that those are going to match (valves/pistons). E30 has a slightly higher compression as well.

Avoid the earlier K-jet blocks and go for the later L-jet. That way you don't have to close the K-jet injector holes.
