Birthday present from my partner is thus coming weekend at Silverstone. This will be the first proper outing since the resto was completed.
Just wondering if anyone going?

No idea how good the various grids are filled, but usually this is a great way to relive the glorious old days of motorsports, including historic F1, sports cars and of course the HTCC which always has a lot of BMW's from E9 CSL's to E30 M3 screamers. You'll have a great time, enjoy! You may bump into the large moustache of Aussie Bill Cutler driving an E12, say hi from me!

It was a fantastic weekend and I will definitely be there next year. The Touring cars were the highlight for me, particularly the pre '66 class, a race long duel between two mustangs, the winner crossed the line on just 3 tyres.
I was the only e21 there, lots of people looking the car and compliments. Only bad news is that I now have a big end knocking so the engine has to come out again, I think one of the rods or a bearing may have been oval when I rebuilt the car. I think that when you build a car out of 38 year old parts you should expect some problems so I'm still happy.

well I can imagine you'd be a lot happier if you didn't run into a re rebuild! real pity sir!
but these classic racing events are great trips down memory lane indeed! any pics to share here?

Actually the engine rebuild doesn't bother me, it's just another challenge and part of a long resto. You buy a brand new car and things go wrong, you build one out of predominantly secondhand bits and something will go wrong, the only solution is all new parts but then I've had problems with new parts as well!
