I am looking for period tires for my '79 320i USA model. Has anyone tried the Pirelli Cinturato CN36 from Longstone Tyres? I wish to stay with the original 13 inch wheels and it's offered in a 185 70R 13 size.

In that size its pretty much eco stuff that is available although supply varies with the region, but when you stick to the known brands it won't be too bad. There is pretty decent rubber from Pirelli, Hankook and Uniroyal I believe.

This car came originally with Continental's when I bought it new in May of '79. Would like to keep it as near original as possible, but that is not possible as these are no longer being made. I think these Pirelli's would be a good alternative. Thanks Jeroen.

David, in that case Pirelli would be the best choice indeed as Pirelli was also used by BMW on new cars. Nice attention to detail!

Great, so you're a first owner? I would love to see more of your beloved e21! And hear more about the story behind it, like why did you buy it in the first place, why never parted from it and so on. Where are you based anyway?

Yes, I am the original owner. I always wanted a 2002 model, but didn't quite have enough money. When I was ready to make a purchase the 2002 had been replaced by the 3 series and I decided to buy a new car as opposed to a used 2002. I live in Maine (USA), where we have tough winters with road salt used in abundance. I drove it in 3-4 Maine winters and then have stored it ever since. Last year i had the car re-painted for the first time. The clear coat was gone. Replaced rocker panels and front left fender. The rest of the car was solid. I had all the glass and doors removed. I will post some pictures tomorrow.

Great! Yeah, Maine winters are like we used to have over in the Netherlands, not good for the e21. But it is nice to be a first owner!! Looking forward to the pics.

Great story indeed, not many cars of this age that are still with their first owner!
