E21 318 y1978 Odometer issue

Post by SFerrari »

Hi !

I have an issue with my odometer, it is stuck recently. But the speedometer works fine.
As far as I know, it is only connected to the gearbox, and as the speedometer is fine, what should I conclude about the odometer ?
Is it only gears that makes the translation between speedometer and Odometer ? And then the only action is to dismentle the dashboard and change the plastic gears ??
What do you please think ?

Thanks

Ok I see. So I need to remove the dashboard ? Is there a specific way to proceed or just unbolt... ?

You can take out the instrument cluster only. It’s fixed to the dashboard with some tiny screws. There’s also one at the back/bottom, holding the cluster to the metal frame on which the dashboard is mounted, accessible from underneath after removing the covers surrounding the steering column. For convenience purpose taking off the steering wheel helps, but it’s no must.

Greetz,
Walter.
