Car mounts for phone in E21

Post by Atle_323i »

How do you guys place your phone when driving your E21?

Mine is just lying in the room behind the gear stick, but it slides around, and it´s abit anoying.
So I would like to get a car mount for my phone, but I don´t know which kind would be best to use. I would like to avoid any holder that you stick to the window.
In my company car, and daily driver I use vent holder, with magsafe, but in the E21 that kind of holder would not work.

So if you have pictures on how you solved it, then please post it here :P

Not really a phone mount, but one of the first things I ever did to my car 10 years ago was to cover the base of the console cubby with felt and mae a little divider so i had a place to put my phone without it sliding all over the place. Still works with my current phone!

Smart solution indeed! I also use magnetic vent holders on most of my cars but that doesn't work on the E21 indeed as it will always be facing down. Would be good to have the phone on that height for nav purposes though.

My reason for trying to find a good phone stand is due to navigation. It’s not easy to use navigation when the phone is lying in the pocket behind the gear shifter.

But nice solution making that litte bump to avoid the phone sliding around.

Perhaps something that makes it possible for the phone to be fitted upright in the ashtray? If you're a non smoker of course hahaha

I think finding spare speaker grill for the top of the dash and making something fit to that, then have the ability to substitute it at will. I have my speaker grill out every year to swap in the working hazzard switch for the MOT  (it lives in the glove box so I can put it in in a reall emergency) so I know it comes out pretty easily, but is still pretty solid.

This idea crossed my mind too, but when I checked my current speaker grill, it is so loose, it won't stay locked in the dashboard. I have a spare dashboard I could steal the other grill, but, not sure if that grill is any better...
