E21 as a Road Course Car

Post by ChadVanz »

Hey all!

New member and a new-to-BMW guy as well. I’ve picked up a 79 320i from my buddy that I plan to (slowly) get trackable. I’ll post some pics of her at the bottom.

I have a primary (although street legal) track car in form of a 65 coupe mustang. I’ve been scouring the last few weeks for info/videos to get as much knowledge as possible so I can have a steady plan to move towards. Just curious if anyone has any input or experience to lend.

My medium term plan is to:
5 lug conversion
Brake upgrade front and rear
Get some stance and widest wheel/tire combo she can fit
Possibly wrap, until I can go all the way through her and fix rust issues (doors and right rear quarter panel. Rest of the car looks pretty solid

I’ve seen some threads recommending reinforcing a lot of the differential and suspension, which would happen as well before she sees the track.

Thanks in advance! Excited for a new adventure, I’ve wanted to get into a bmw for a few years now.

Welcome here! Looks like your vase car is in a more than decent shape, and I like your plans. What are your plans for the engine? Have fun with this project and please keep us posted!
