Mcinek, what do you mean 'but that colour'...?

I think the colour is awesome!! I've never seen an E21 look more 'late 70s'... and remember, retro is in!

Mate, I think Kermit looks fab... so authentic!! :D

The color is Zederngrun and was discontinued a month after Kermit was built.
My wife hated the color at first but now likes it. It is often the topic of conversation, some love it, others don't.
I like it because it is rare, it defines its retro background of the seventies.http://foto.schoolbank.nl/common/img/00 ... 760097.jpg

There is definetly something abut this colour: you gotta love or hate it :D Although the car is super, oryginal, classic, you wanna jump in it, play Bee Gess and drive, drive, drive :D

Congrats!

It is a contemporary color, and it's one of the most rare E21 colors... stick to it!

The Beegees ?????
reckon I would rather play AC/CD! Highway to hell.....
It has an am/fm radio, ya know the one with the push buttons for pre-selected stations, but because the car has Air-conditioning ( this is Australia, and yes it is RHD, the radio sits between the steering column and the r/h door.
Once again, because I love the retro feel, it will remain unchanged.

Kermit,

The car is VERY cool! It seems to be the same colour as an old 75 e12 I drove a while back. Sure, you'll probably get strange looks from 'burban motorists who don't get it, but stuff 'em - they'll only try to race you anyway!! I agree with Anders - it looks very late 70s; and Jeroen who told us it is a rare colour....Wonderful!

I'm a bit confused about the radio though - if there is A/C the radio normally would sit upright in the centre console. That isn't the case with your car? And I don't understand how it sits between the steering wheel and the right door - its normally to the left of the driver in the centre console :? .

If you can get some pics of the interior, that would be marvellous too!

Yours Sincerely
Confused:mrgreen:

And my brother had one 320/6 -79 z-grün but it had been painted in bright yellow :(

ZenderE21,
I had a 323i 1982 that had the radio as you describe.
In a fit of madness I sold it in 1995 :(
I too found it strange how the radio was installed.
I have all the paperwork of Kermit, and off memory the Aircon was installed prior to the radio, explaining why it sits where it does.
I will check the dates of installation and confirm that.
Aircon was installed by Highgate here in Adelaide, car was delivered by Light motors Adelaide.
Photo's to follow :D
On the label under the bonnet and in the owners manual supplement the model is called 320A-Australia.
Was this car an Australia special?
Car has electric mirrors, was that stock or optional?

Hey Kermit,

I think that you mean me in the last post  (I was enquiring about the radio :D )

Well, I've never heard of a set up like that before, but if it is aftermarket, then it makes sense! Be interesting to see in a pic though, because I can't quite visualise it!

I'm not an expert on e21s - I've never owned one actually  ...But I think that the electric mirrors may be an option on an e21 with the chrome mirrors on the doors, as is your car. I'm pretty sure that the post-79 e21s had elec mirrors standard - the ones with the black plastic mirrors.

And regards the model, I've heard of an Edition E, but not an A; so I can't help you there. But if it came from Germany like that, then I imagine that the 'Edition' A was a different equivalent to the Edition E.......? Jeroen will probably know. Maybe your car having elec mirrors is something to do with it?

Regards
Mathew

Most E21's have the A on the VIN tag... my 323i that was always a manual (also according to Mobile Tradition and ETK) also has 323i A on the tag. Before, it would read 323i/A meaning that an optional auto gearbox COULD be fitted.

Regarding country-specific editions:

There were the Euro or ECE cars. Cars that had about the same spec but were RHD usually were called SWE (Sweden) or AUS (Duh!) versions. And then there were the JP (Japan), ZA (South Africa), THA (Thailand) & USA versions.

There's no such thing as an Edition A as far as I know. But please note that, like these French M Editions, importers were free to 'make' their own limited editions. But they were not registered as such in the German files.
