Hey everyone, new to the site and a new e21 owner. Coming by hoping to learn more about this new orange thing sitting in my garage
1983 320is. It was in really great shape, had an engine and tranny rebuild at 150k (it's at 240k or so now - speedo's busted

). Interior is almost mint, just a small tear in the driver seat and two small cracks on the dash. Needs a little bit of work, the blower fan no longer works and little things like that, but overall it runs and drives great. I'll be using it as a tinkerer/autocrosser.
I also have a 1999 SAAB 9-3 Viggen, so while I dig the older BMWs, they aren't gonna replace my Swedish beast

.
Anyway just sayin hi and pic whoring

Yeah the US spec bumpers are too big. I'll be cutting the shocks and pushing it in when I have time, it just looks ridiculous!

Is it common place to have big bumpers in the US, are there any other car examples like that I wonder
Actually just looking closer at that front bumper , do I see a gap between the bumper and the front slam panel, dont tell me the bumper moves in and out??

US bumpers have shock absorbers behind them. They're supposed to be good for a collision up to 5mph. Ugly as they are, they do their job!

Welcome here, nice car (Henna red if I'm not mistaken). What exactly do you have in mind, stripping her to the bare essentials or keeping her 'as is'? Pity about the US bumpers but a conversion to euro style examples is difficult.

I have a feeling the car may have been resprayed at some point, but it was resprayed the same color. The car is in too good of shape to strip down so I'll be cleaning it up and leaving it just about as is. I hate the US bumpers so I'll be trying the cheapo method of reducing them first to see how that goes.
Otherwise just getting it running good, move the battery to the trunk and maybe a rear strut tower bar. I'm planning on doing some autocross with it!
The wheels are OZ Turbos, or at least they are OZ's as it is stamped right in the middle. I really dig'm. They will need to be machined to get perfect, they're quite tarnished (look good in the pix but up close no).
Thanks for the welcome, I'm sure I'll be posting up some noobish questions.

Hi!
Welcome and very nice E-21, first time for me to see those rims, they look very cool. Interested in seeing more pics of your car, for example engine, interior boot etc.
Keep it up,
Dennis
