Let's see of anyone can beat this in the lightness stakes...

I got this car for nothing, it's LHD and fairly rusty and hasn't been run in years, my new field car. Me and a mate dragged it out of the shed, replaced all the ignition, poured some petrol down the carb and off we went! Since it's only a 1.6, weight loss was a must since I'll be racing against a mate. Everything has been removed, except I couldn't be bothered with the dash and I kept the windscreen. Any less weight would be chopping out panels and the dash, but I do need to remove the rear light clusters. I'll weigh it when I get some more petrol since I ran it out. All I can say is that it's an absolute hoot!

Not exactly concurs!

The idea was to plough and roll a field after harvest to create a track to race on. My mate was telling me he was going to get a car to compete against this, although the jammy git managed to get a E30 318i for £200. There was no way my badly running 315 1.6 was going to compete with that, so it went back to the drawing board. It was already very light, but I had some tricks up my sleeve with 323i suspension and a spare good M10 1.8 with a weber carb.

Out comes the 1.6

In goes my good 1.8 with weber.

2 and a half coils were chopped from each corner. I had fun with the rear shocks since the extra slack due to shorter springs would of caused the springs to dislocate. To sort this, the top and bottom spring cups were drilled in three places each and the springs were zip tied in.
Image

Has anyone lifted an E21 door? Well I have and they were far too weighty for my liking! Out came the grinder and I gutted the fookers. Much more acceptable!
Image

I had some 30mm (each) spacers kicking about, and a lovely set of 14 x 7 et25 hartge rims. Set it off a treat
Image

I took the mountney wheel off my yellow beast (can you tell?), and since the key broke we've been hotwiring it. This soon got tedious, so I've made it run on switches. One for ignition, one for starter (although the starter one is missing since I broke it ). Switches make it feel like a proper racer :P

Notice my newly sprayed rocker cover, it's all in the details on a car like this 8)

Funny you should say that, the first time I took it on the track, the whole of the system just after the middle box fell off mid lap! It was running shit with only a middle box, so I hooked up a spare 316 exhaust I had laying around.

Anyway, here's some track photos with my mates E30. The track is amazing, the cars drift like crazy and it's mega fun! Sideways on every corner.

When it came time to race though, it was far to wet due to the miserable non stop rain we've had. Here's the two competitors, I think we know who's got the best car!

Cheers, you should see what it says on the other side, I didn't post this originally since some people may take offense. Balls and Jew are the nicknames of the two guys who bought the car.
