323i 1980 Arnold

Hello Everybody.

This is my 1980 323i

It isn't the original color (beige) and the headlight-wipers are not functioning yet.

Image

checking the vin somewhere gave:
Chassis number 7202340
Vehicle code 1831
Series E21
Model 323i
Body type saloon
Catalog model ECE
Production date 1979 / 09
Engine M20
Transmission Manual
Steering Left
Catalyzer NONE

The licenceplates that are on it are from 1987. Somewhere before this date the car was imported from Germany.

using the gearing calculator from the Unix Nerd's Domain I found that the car must have the axle ratio of a 320/6.

The engine is not running absolutely smooth at constant speeds/slow acceleration in the lower revs (1000 - 3000)

The mileage is stated to be 92500 km. (but can this be checked??)

The Recaro-seat have leather covers.
except for 1 all seat handles are missing (they should be where you see the rip in the leather.)

Image

The airco has been sitting partially disassembled and broken for at least 10 years now (previous owner never attemped to fix it) so I don't expect too much of that.

The power steering however is functioning and I like it as it doesn't give to little resistance.

The manual gearbox is a 4-speed which I want to swap to a 5-speed after some time (sorry Phil but I need to fix the essentials first) At the moment
the car is doing 4000 revs/min @ 120 km/h in fourth. Putting it in second gear tends to give some not so nice sounds.

That's it for now.
Greetz,
Arnold.

Nice car!
You got some great extra's on it, AC, recarro's wish wash on your headlights and I see you got a console with red indicators! Very rare.
(Some guy in Hollands tries to sell such a console, he's asking about 150 euro for it.)

Hope you can get everything working, good luck!

Very nice car. You dont even imagine how I envy you those haedlights wish wash. Maybe you want to sell it 8)

And second, Dennis what it is a problem in painting the indicators by your self. I did it in mine Bimmer, it was very easy.

Is it just me or is it a euro thing to have the alpina style cluster!??

I notice that you guys all seem to have the green around the tacho and the fuel increments with litres. We don't have them on the Aussie deliveries :x

Nice Ride mate!!

Cheers

Huh? It's a stock E21 cluster for the Euro facelift models. OK, except for the chrome rings and the red needles but that's added in a few moments.... it's a matter of taste....

Both my e30 and e12 have the fuel gaugue increments in litres! What I do wish my cars had was the old Euro speedo in miles with kms on the inside.

Nice car Arnold! with a bit of a cleanup and patience she'll be as good as new soon enough!! i don't know about the colour, but I sure love those seats

Cheers

I will start putting on more before/after pictures on this page as I start improving/fixing/cleaning her up.

Sorry Mcinek, but the headlights wish wash is the only part that has made any impression on female spectators so far . A secondary point is that I also think it's a really nice detail.

I haven't taken off the seat-covers completely yet.

But after my last exam next Tuesday I am free to spend my time anyway I want (on my "new" BMW, that is) until the end of August.  .

Pictures of what comes out underneath the covers will be posted on this page in a week or so from then.
