My first 323i

Because i'm bored as hell, and i found a bunch of pictures, here the story of my 323i.

It all started in 1982, when this car rolled out of the BMW factory being a German car.

Some german drove it for 2 years and drifted it into a ditch. The whole right side of the car was destroied, and the owner sold the car to my dad, this all happend in 1984.

The car was restored in original state again en they added some Hartge decals. after driving it for 12 years, the car ended up in a dusty corner of my dad's workshop.

There you can see the car standing.

When i was old enough to drive the car i took it out of the workshop and my e21 time started...

I treated it as a dig up and drive... new oil, new fuel and get on...

After 2000 kilometers the first problems began, it was drinking as much oil as it was using fuel... Valveseals were little dry.

So the first overhaul started, whole cilinderhead overhaul, en finetuning of the k-jet.

Drove it for a couple of months after this, went to the Nurbrgring en blew my headgasket again..

On the internet i found a 323i e30 for 200 euro's. The car crashed on a circuitday and only the engine an some small other parts where usable.

Took out the engine.

Image

And killed the car.

Image

The e30 engine was delicious, had all of its power and did not need any adjustment, all i needed was a 5speeds gearbox. Found one and shortned my driveshaft.

Messy engine bay.

Image

Added some lowering springs (60/60) and 15'' rims with Toyo T1R tires.

Image

Image

Than some horse did not like my car and kicked it 2 times:

Than i had some weird noises in my engine... Took my engine out en found out the connecting rod bearing shells where dead.

So time to overhaul the complete engine, and make the best of the parts of the e21 and the e30 engine.

Image
Painted e30 engine case.

Image
Image
Overhauled e30 cylinder head, i used it because the ports are lots bigger.

Cleaned crankshaft.

Cleaned engine parts.

At the moment the engine is in my car again, but i'm out of pictures now....

More to come

Side skirts are Zender if i am right, but could allso be original BMW.

Engine bay is clean again, at the moment i'm driving at 100% gas, so less wiring... Battery has allready been moved the the trunk

That seems to be a lot of work too. The rust-animal eat that car good.

The work which you already have done looks very good.
