picked this up for $250, couldn't pass it up

I hope it just needs the injection lines that I just ordered to run, we'll see soon enough.

before that, I got this for free, couldn't pass it up, once I got the blue one, I chose to part it out, and it's leaving in style.

I think I want the new one as low as I got the old one eventually, we'll see how it goes. I'll have to modify the steering, subframe and/or make new control arms, and raise the strut towers to accomplish that properly.

Could make a good'un out of those two. The first car is very high on the springs, even for stock ones
Like the eurotrash logo you have there :D

thank you sir.

So my car doesn't look like crap anymore. I'm going to be very vague, so ask questions if you have them. I know my coil-overs are crappy, but they were free. I liked the idea of the adjust-ability that I wouldn't have with cut springs, in fact, i think I'm going to bring the back up 1/4" to get the stance a bit more mean.

Errr...., ok -- I'll bite: What kind of non-BMW engine are you running in it?

(Was it posted somewhere else and I just missed it?)

it wasn't posted earlier on this forum, so I'll let you all know what it has.

Mazda 12A, I would have rather had a 13b or 20B, but I got a killer deal on the 12A

I was going to do this to mine but i been beaten to it. haha well done mate. dont worry if you get slagged off by the purists its only natural, hey at least it was designed by a German.

how difficult was it dropping a 12A in there? do you have any pics of the conversion?

Id love a 13B Bridgy in mine

Sling a turbo on it!

I'll have to post up a few pics of the conversion a bit later. it was a bit tricky to get the engine in there, mounting it up was the easy part, then I had to mess with the hydraulic line for the clutch slave cylinder, run an aftermarket fuel pump, make my own drive line, and a bunch of other weird and unexpected odds and ends.

I used to work for Mazda and owned 3 early RX7's and a torbo 2 with the 13b engine. Easily chipped for big boost and an easy 140mph plus. Even without a turbo I had a ropey old 1982 RX7 that easily did 130mph.

Bad fuel consumption though and a thirst for oil to keep the rotor tips healthy. I stripped an engine to rebuild it once. I got it in bits then threw it in a skip. Cheaper to buy another lump.

i have had three rx7's - two FC turbo II's one was a coupe and the other a cabrio then i sold those and got an FD3S as a toy - which i sold a year or so ago. regret doing it as I miss that car, dont miss spending 300+ on juice a month though lol.

The e21 would be such a good car to rotorise - if i did it then id defo go bridgeport, gotta love the brap brap brap.

anyway you found it easy to mount the engine in? was that on the original bmw subframe or did you use a 12A subframe?

im very interested in a run down on how you did it! one day i want to do this myself!

I'm actually really surprised by how much you all like what I have done.

anyways, the fuel mileage isn't good by any means, but I think it's getting at least 18 mpg, it's not a daily driver, so not too big of a deal.

To mount the engine, I plated the unibody and made some mounts using chevy spring bushings, I welded brackets to the factory 12A engine bracket so it would all work out. The tranny mount is hideous, I was being impatient with that  , fortunately I don't really look at it, and the engine mounts turned out fine, so it's good to go.

the pics aren't that great, and they are out of order, but I think you'll get the basic idea.

+1 more for the thumbs up vote. 8)

A rotary in a sorted e21 would be epic fun.

esp a bridge ported 13b.

By all means talk us thru the conversion. :D

Weren't tempted to push the engine waaay back in the bay or would that have meant dicking about with the shifter position?

Back in the day Mazda used to issue a warning with RX7's not to park them on grass. The cats used to get so hot they set it alight and loads of owners had their cars go up in smoke! Janspeed used to make a good exhaust for the early RX7. Sounded good and the engine would just keep revving!
