F*ck Facebook!

For many years, we've been active on Facebook as well. More or less a necessity as less and less people do some digging or write nice stories on forums. Oneliners and likes are more than enough effort... glad we see several exceptions here still!

Anyway, that is why we set up a Facebook page with news, event reports and photos. Today I received a notification that my page was set offline and is under review. A little later I received a notification the page was deleted:

We have removed your Page from Facebook

What happened?
Your appeal was reviewed and we confirmed that your Page goes against our Community Standards for misrepresentation.

What you can do
You can go to Account Status to review and respond to any restrictions and find more resources.
You may have the right to challenge our decision in your country's courts. You may also be able to refer our decision to a certified dispute settlement body.

No further info or messages, no warnings or rerquests to remove or modify anything, just: delete right away.

Ofcourse Facebook has to monitor things. But with a page that exists over 10 years in the same format, and with no recent postings, we all of a sudden have a misrepresentation issue? Did I make it come across that this was an official BMW AG page? Spread hate or untruths? Perform illegal or commercial activity on an enthousiasts' page? None of the above!

We also have a very active FB group with approx. 14.500 active members (similar number as the number of memnbers/likes on the page. I spread the news there, together with my view on this modus operandi. Therefore, I expect that the keepers of good manners at FB will ban me completely. They may even send men in balaclavas to pick me up and you may never hear from me again.

Wow that's very weird. You have to wonder if their AI is at fault, seeing as it seems to be the default means of policing things these days.

I can honestly say I avoid facebook like the plague, I hate the format, I find it useless for finding solutions for problems, unlike a forum where a search will usually yield some sort of result.

I haven't posted much in the forum of late, but I'll make a special effort to do so, lets see if we can buck the trend and get forum traffic up again.

Ah, I see where you're coming from, had a similar experience myself. An arbitrary decision, no explanation, nobody you can even ask why?

I avoid the social media companies like the plague, they collect information about you, make no effort to check whether it is correct and make random decisions about what they think they know.

I prefer to participate in a forum but it appears I'm a dying breed.

Im seeing similar things happening to other platforms, i think that people will gradually comeback to forums and other traditional methods.
