was finally making a start on the motronic conversion yesterday inbetween the heavy rain showers.
stripped the carb off the manifold and threw it down the garden as far as i could. (does anyone want to buy it btw! lol!)
then the manifold came off, dizzy off and e30 blanking plate in. im guna make a blanking plate for the fuel pump too.
put the e30 cam cover on, then tried the manifold on. looks good.
need to fit the e30 cam pulley.
and looks like ill have to evict the battery and banish it to the boot!

collecting all the other bits loom, ecu etc on saturday.......

pics so far.......

For gods sakes murran, you could have given the block a little clean up and maybe a little paint!!!

good luck on the conversion!!!, you will enjoy the performance!!! and the battery definetly has to go into the boot cos the airflow meter will be inits place!!! use the 173 ecu and software 1.3 and if you need a chip i know someone who sells a hi-performance chip!! that would get your bollox frying

give it a clean up?? you must be joking??

ok then, just for you, ill pinch some jizer from work and give it a brush down. will that make you happy???

:D :D :D me happy now, look -----> :D smileing!! ...

You can also use the 320i ecu which is the 172, but you need to change the chip inside to a 325 software unless you opt for a performance, i have a few 325 chips lying about if you end up getting a 172 ecu!! but it works also with 320i chip but wont get the full juice but at least it will run in desperate needs if you know what i mean!!

jizered it down etc. your right it does look better.

started on the cam pulley........ timed it up etc. took the old cam pulley off and fitted e30 pulley, but its 180 degrees out, on the e30 mark to the mark on e21 pulley????

is this normal??

i used the complete e30 front damper that would show correct cos it was used on distributor so it will differ, dont forget to fit the damper sensor or it wont start i forgot to wire that on .. it recked my brains that same night i was in bed, and rememvered then went in the morning and fitted it plugged it up then turned the key and turned over a few times and fired up let idle and i was flooring it like i hadnt driven a car before, also i would change the timing belt and water pump whilst in that part of the world as precaution meseaures or all that gear would be out again.... ...

yeah ive got the e30 front pulley/damper to fit. if thats what your on about??
what i mean is, to put the e30 cam pulley on the dowel it seems to have to be 180 degrees out on the timing mark on the e30 pulley compared with the e21 cam pulley. which will mean the e30 rotor arm will be 180 out that bolts to it?? :?
i'll have another look at it tomorrow.

the cambelt, roller and water pump are already new.
fitted by yours truly i might add.

Don't forget the earth strap, it won't work without it.

I am heading over to Harewood for the NE regional concours on Sunday - is it worth bringing that centre console?
