sound speakers...

are there any spaces to fit speakers in the rear parcel shelf? currently, i only have 2 4x6" speakers, 1 in each side in the front, and while they give sound, it's pretty tinny. i'm happy with it (i used to be musicless!!) but if i could make it a bit better, happy days!

if anyone has any pics of any set-ups they have, please post up

if there are provisional spacers for speakers there, what size?

I've got speakers in my rear parcel shelf and they appear to fit through the designed hole in the metalwork. I was going to try to fit a pair of 6X9's in there, but that would need metal cutting away. I'll see if I can get a pic later if nobody beats me to it.

I have 4 4"x6" (2 front as you do, and 2 on the rear panel as in the pic above.)
They are "Kicker" 60watts.
Sound is VERY good and clear, only no bass. So I have added an amplifier-subwoofer of 80watts (from Roadstar) under the co-driver's seat. The whole system's sound is more than I would wish (However, I never listen to music so loud that I would need something more powerful)

if you want to fit 6x9's just remove the rear parcel shelf cover and then trace onto some thick MDf, this with the original holes gives enough depth to mount most normal sized 6x9's. you money however will be much better spent upgrading the front speakers to seperate components and amping them up.

thanks guys. i take it to a company called sextons, who are very, very good (the top in southern england) for sound systems and really know their stuff. they said pop along saturday and they'd have a look at what they could do. i'm only wanting to get ideas for now, if it's going to cost a couple of hundred quid then i probably won't bother...would rather save a little more and get the car rust-proofed (£500 job)...not your usual underseal job to say the least.

there is no rust under the car really, it's just rust-proofing....a no rust guarantee for 5 years minimum. usually lasts over 10 years

6x4's sound great if you put a sub in the boot. It's a far cheaper & easier route to good quality sound than butchering your parcel shelf etc.

Just fit JBL 6x4's - or similar quality - all round and a 10" sub and amp in the boot. It'll give you a nice, deep sound with enough bass to pretend you read Max Power if you need it.

If your more concerned with making windows vibrate and pissing off the neighbour's you might need to start hacking away at your parcel shelf.

Hey mate,

I cut out the metal from the middle at the rear side, to put there 2 x 250 watt. I used also wood to make it nicer.
For the front i used a spacer for the speakers, these a bigger.

You can see the speakers at the back window.

trouble with putting stuff in the boot is...i regularly use the boot, especially when i'm doing trips to and from uni i have shed loads of luggage so need as much boot space as i can get. i think i'm going to go along, see what they say and mention some suggestions here and see how it goes.

You dont have to fill your boot like i did.....
You can buy also speakers what fits in the orginal holes with higher watt.

You can connect the amp and sub as a single unit like I did. It takes about 10 seconds to remove it if you should need the extra bit of space or want to lose the weight for track etc.

Can anybody post photos of how and where best to fit front speakers in an E21? Galaxy in Lambeth are usually good but a bit foxed this time about how to do this neatly without tearing into the door cards or mounting clunky units in the footwells. Also, the rear parcel shelf has no space for holes because of the boot cantilever lines no? Any help much appreciated!!
