once again I propose you to go my way(see my previous reply above)...Unless you do have very high-end standards, it is a unexpectedly nice solution-much better than just a decent one and NO BOOT SPACE NEEDED!!
(just the space under the front co-driver's seat..)
If you need any photos I could upload some next week, just ask me to

Good plan I think I'll do as you suggest - a photo would be great please when you have the time including the location of front speakers. Cheers Phil.

Re: FRONT SPEAKERS

philco wrote:Can anybody post photos of how and where best to fit front speakers in an E21? Galaxy in Lambeth are usually good but a bit foxed this time about how to do this neatly without tearing into the door cards or mounting clunky units in the footwells. Also, the rear parcel shelf has no space for holes because of the boot cantilever lines no? Any help much appreciated!!
Pop out the cardboard parcel shelf cover and from beneath you'll be able to see where the 6x4 speaker holes can be popped out. There are corresponding dips in the steel parcel shelf where the speaker magnets will go.

There are similar holes on the sides of the footwells although you'll have to cut the carpet sections if there are no speaker covers already in situ?

My initial thoughts were that 6x4 speakers were never going to sound any good but the fact is I was wrong. JBL's or something of similar quality, can sound great combined with something to handle the bass. Either a boot mounted sub & amp or one of those new fangled under seat jobbies.

Saw some shallow subs that would take hardly any boot space or you could even fit under the front or rear seats!

They're called Armageddon and start @ £80 for a single sub or £180 for a double.

Yes, mine about the same, only it is "Roadstar", and (I think) watts are just 80...
speakers are 4 oval shaped 4"x6" ,"Kicker",2-way, 60W each.
Sound is very good and clean. Speakers are working (fitted in 1995, so after 15 years!!) very well the midrange and the highrange, and the sub is taking good care of the bass
Sorry about the pics, hope to have them by the end of the week

Just the job. If I hadn't found my bargain basement second-hand jobbie I reckon I'd go for one of those myself.

there is no rust under the car really, it's just rust-proofing....a no rust guarantee for 5 years minimum. usually lasts over 10 years 8)
Without stripping your car to a bare shell and dipping it ,I can't see how they can guarantee 5 years without rust :?:
