It took some working out,. but i have heard it run today :)

It wasnt actually using petrol but easy start.

So then i started to wonder why fuel wasnt coming through! i tested the injectors with my multimeter - they were working! Then i realised that i had put the fuel lines in the wrong way round! Well every previous injected car i have owned the fuel goes IN to the pressure regulator... well not in a bmw! the fuel goes IN to the rail and OUT via the regulator! the wrong way round!!!

Now all thats left.

tidy wiring,
tighten some bolts.
manipulate the power steering pipe a bit
fit rad + Fan and then wire it in
fit the front bumper / valance / bonnet etc
take it the exhaust shop!

then :launch my engine swap is completed.

the car is now running. there are a few issues though.

rad is really close i mean like 10mm close! So i am going to use a spare e30 rad which is half as thick but im hoping that it will still cool the engine enough?

The 328i manifolds hit the steering linkage, which is a bit annoying I will get the exhaust guy to sort that hopefully,

Then its just a matter of a rear battery tray, clamps, a waterproof / heatproof box for the ecu.

IM nearly there.

ive just booked my self in at the custom pipe builders, hes going to do me a great deal including a manifold mods (front n rear) and a mandrel bent full twin pipe / twin box system to the rear.
.
im not having an exit either side i am going to have twin tailpipes on one side and im going for more quietness rather than a very loud system. i prefer induction roar..

just shows you though, the supersprint system was about 125% more excl vat n delivery

hi guys

i spent an all nighter getting the car ready last night before car went to the exhaust shop this morning.

The jobs list was long and i started at 5:30pm and didnt finish until 5am!

Got the gearbox oil changed and the fan relay / fan mounted / rad mounted / rad pipes on / general tidying up / checking for leaks / body panels on and cleaning up of tools and some other stuff. The rad was being a right pain and seemed to take forever to mount properly and as a result of very little clearance has suffered several bent fins and a small leak i had to repair using some metal putty, but there was no choice - I didnt have time to get a new / replacement. It holding water though, should be fine for the time being. I'll defo get me measuring tape out and then see about getting a custom rad made, there is very little room if you use the e34 rad. I want a rad that fits in the gap between the lights but is something like 2.5"-3" thick.. that will get done next month i think.

I still have a few little jobs left to do.. such as the battery tray, fan switch (its running a manual switch at the minute), putting the rear seats back in and im going to hide my engine bay wiring a bit better.

I get the car back tomorrow night from the exhaust shop, but im back on the road!!! took me 4 weeks would have been less if i didnt have to go work lol.

heres some pics i took this morning.

heres my "engine birth" vid lol.. you gotta do one eh! the engine sounds dead strange as my phone couldnt cope with actually how loud this engine is with no manifolds.

santa pod show was the aim of getting it dome. it will be interesting to see how it copes on a drag strip. i dont wanna go out and bet against a 2.7 but i think it might be close seeing as its similar power.

theres a delay from me exhaust builder so its tomorrow now.

i havent slept due to worry / excitement of the first drive, its goin to be well strange just having power steering and hopefully my diff wont snap in half lol.

yeah i can be ignorant to sense sometimes lol. like now Im worried what the insurance people are going to say, i did mention that i was planning on doing this when i took out the policy a few months ago. I hope they didnt think i wasnt serious or try to extort me for every penny, or even worse still refuse me.

I really should have thought about getting a firm price / written confirmation before doing this!

i completely forgot to sort that out as I was too busy thinking about doing the swap!

mmmmm. might have been an idea to check out that sort of thing first.

mine (lancaster classic policy) seemed to take the engine swap in their stride. was only £40 ish more or sumurt. fingers crossed it doesnt change yours much.

they didnt seem phased by any of my mods actually, and they did say that it would be fine.

I feel a bit like an idiot but even if they do cancel on me - i will just go somewhere else.

I'm with them too and had same experience. They've paid out on claims no hassle too.
