My cooling fan doesn't work (320/6)

Post by BMW-POWER »

Helloo,
my electrical cooling fan doesnt work on my 78' 320/6
but i've found the problem i think,
the wires on the temp-sensors below in my radiator, the contacts are completely rusted and broken off , can somebody tell me wich color of wires should be put together on wich sensor? there are 2 sensors on the left side of the radiator. i have four wires each in a different colour hanging around by the sensors, where can i find what wires belong together on what sensor?

friendly greetings, (sorry for the bad english  )

hi mate, hopefully someone can confirm the correct placement of the wires, cos i need to know also..

if you look at the first image in the second post of this thread http://www.bmwe21.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12045 you can see how mine was setup (and the problem i have with the broken connections on the top switch.)

mine has the black wire and the green/red wire go on the bottom switch, which is the 91'c switch - not sure that is correct though..

Well usually you have two supply wires, ground, colored black usually as described above. Each goes to one sensor.

To figure uot which is which try connecting one of the other wires to a black one to find out which is which (slow speed and high speed). The sensors have the switch temp written on the housing, prolly 82 and 91 degrees. Clearly the wires for the low speed go on the one with the lowest temp, most likely to be the 82.

You cannot cause short circuits if you connect a colored and black wire. Do make sure the fuses are still ok (see fusebox diagram on this website).
