how much is my engine worth?

Post by myfirstE21 »

hi all,

im looking at changing the engine in my 316 (1.8) for something turbo'd,

how much is my original engine worth? it has 86,000 miles on it and runs well, doesnt smoke and pulls really well too.

wont be comin out for about 2months but i dont wanna give it away as its such a sweet engine !

cheers
steve

about £4.50 plus the VAT.....

unfortunatly doesnt matter how good it is ita an undesirable engine unless u can find anyone who has just blown there engine up and wants a quick swap but the best your gonna get for it is prob £50.

when we swapped zans 323 engine for a 325 we couldnt even give his old block away

I'd have thought M10's are more use than an old m20 2.3 tbh.

all depends on the type of M10 you have got.

a standard e21 engine compared to a e30 m10 on a weber is like comparing a 2.3 to a 2.5 on motronic. power difference, drivability and desirability are massivly different.

however a e21 m10 is a good place to start a turbo project

nope, it looks too tight/tricky to get a big turbo on it and i want about 325bhp, im going for a 2.0 zetec turbo as i have built one before and the power gives you a ear to ear grin ! :D

thats only because the ford people cant aford the stupid prices of mk1 and 2 escorts.

bmw managed to get 1400 hp out of an m10 block, thats a lot more than a zetec can handle

still i actually like a bit of hybrid engine work so give it a crack i hope it works

If I was going to consider a different make of engine, I'd go with a red top Opel/Vauxhall I think and an SBD kit. I guess Caibra turbo parts would be an easy option too.

I like the way this m10 is put to good use...

The redtop vaux isn't a bad effort though I think they cast them out of butter. Either stick with Bavaria or you may be excused to go ford. (yes I am a declared ford man)

well i am vauxhall through and through but i dont like the idea of a redtop as they are too commonly used in conversions.

im only aiming for around 325bhp which i think will be plenty as its my first RWD car lol !

i will get a progress thread up soon of the work i have done so far, just wanting the rain to stop so i can carry on working !
