Re: Mark's Tango'd 323i
My cars over with RPM and having the engine dropped in. It's also going to be run up on the dyno to see what sort of power it's making whilst running all Motronic. I'm wondering if now I know there's a hotter cam in there, should I be running a vernier cam belt pulley to get the most from it?
A change of plan / circumstances means I'm also fitting Wilwoods front calipers and EBC Greenstuff pads under my split rims.
Anyway, any advice re the vernier please guys?

the pulley will help you do those last little bit of fine tuning, especially if its got a decent advance/retard scale on it. depends how precise you want to be really.

Re: Mark's Tango'd 323i
I understand what it's for but I guess I'm thinking that if it's making good power without one, will I really see much in the way of an improvement?
Re: Mark's Tango'd 323i
i dont think you really need it, your not building a high revving engine so you wont need to make those fine tunes that you need high up,
there not too expensive to buy however and they do look very pretty

At £90 plus the time, effort and expense of fitting, it needs to do way more than look pretty.

Re: Mark's Tango'd 323i
it depends on the spec of the 2.7.
generally the adj. pulley is required if the 2.7 has had the block decked or much taken off the head. as obviously the cam and crank pulley will be slightly closer, requiring the cam to be slightly retarded to retain the original cam timing.
sometimes in these cases you may also need a custom cam belt (a tooth shorter) if alot has been removed from the block. as theres not enough adjustment to get the belt tight enough.

Re: Mark's Tango'd 323i
Thanks guys. Although my engine has made good power without one, I think I may bite the bullet and fit one anyway, so there's a bit more room to play when it goes to be live mapped. Thanks for your input - much appreciated.

Re: Mark's Tango'd 323i
Decided to nab Nas' idea for using the VAG gauges when these popped up cheap.

Have also fitted Wilwood calipers up front with EBC greens. 2.7 finally in and am running it in for a few hundred miles before ragging it. Z3 quick-shift too. Coming back Friday!
My split rims are finally finished too but not worth taking any photos till I have the use of a decent camera tomorrow. I know I'm biased but they look freakin' awesome!
