Clutch master cylinder question

Post by E21meister »

The clutch master cylinder on my 323i is leaking badly, so I need to get a replacement. Does anyone know however, if you can get a refurb kit for these, or what other BMW or indeed other cars use this particular master cylinder?

Real OEM tells you what other models used a specific part.

Just checked and all models of e21 used the same part but it wasn't used on any other series of cars.

If you can't find a rebuild kit, buy a cheap alternative cylinder and just fit the internals.

That's the conclusion I've come to. The other alternative is to use an E30 one and make a new pipe (the one that connects to the slave cylinder on the 'box), but that's a last resort.

W&N has a refurb kit and the cylinder. BMW has also the kit and the cylinder.

And I have the kit and the cylinder. :(

lucas girling service kit for e21 ate clutch mastercylinder ...sp 3648..(no kit listed for fag mastercylinder) you might be able to order this by kit number at a car shop or garage ...i don't think a e21 will be listed in any current girling parts book because of the age ....edd ...p.s I can email you a scan of the full e21 page out of girling parts book if needed ( photobucket seem to lower the res on upload and the part numbers can't be seen after)
e21 320 (12/1975) 320i/4 (3/77)running gear.
e21 316 (1981) TRE702X.

Does anyone know if the internals of an E30 clutch master cylinder are the same as an E21 equivalent? I know the inlet for the clutch fluid pipe is in a different place, but otherwise it looks the same externally.
Would the dimensions of the internal parts differ between say, a Girling or an ATE?

I bought one off RetroB which I'm sure was an E30 cyl (can you confirm if reading this?) but it works fine. :)
