Fuel pump for 2.5i conversion
Fuel pump for 2.5i conversion
I'm replacing the 2l carb in my 320/6 with a 2.5i and was wondering what i'll have to do about the fuel pump. I take it i'll have to change to an electric fuel pump. If so any recommendations on what one to get and how to go about doing it?

Re: Fuel pump for 2.5i conversion
I run the slugs efi off an e30 318is in tank pump which fits perfectly although the sender is wonky so the fuel gauge reads wrong. I have another one that I will probably use on the Baur, it's basically the same pump as on a 325i so will flow enough fuel.

Re: Fuel pump for 2.5i conversion
Or if someone is breaking a 323 the standard pump will do the job, or obviously an e30 325 one will be OK too, as Jim says.
Re: Fuel pump for 2.5i conversion
cheers lads, sounds like the cheaper option, which i will probably go for. but just out of interest what about uprgraded ones by the likes of walbro or facet?
Re: Fuel pump for 2.5i conversion
if going for an e30 one, you need a one from a 4 cylinder e30 as these have the return line on the sender (like all e21s). on 6 cyl e30s the return line goes to a pipe on the actual tank. ie; only the feed is on the sender (which isnt like e21s).

oh yeah completely forgot about a fuel return, bugger. will maybe just go for a 323 one then to be safe.
Re: Fuel pump for 2.5i conversion
that second fuel line is a must.
I ran a 323i fuel pump and filter from an e21. but it doesnt mount in the usual place as there are no brackets unless you own a 323i - which you dont, so you will have to make some.
fit if the bolts holding your tanks on are a bit rusty, then prepare yourself for a fight with that second fuel line! this job took me nearly a whole day to do.

that is not what i wanted to hear haha, because they will be rusty. actually i think they might have had the fuel tank out when the welding got done, but thats just a bit hopefull...
Have you got any pics of that build? Like where you mounted it and ran the second fuel line?

sounds good to me. would it just be straight swap then, and connect up the second fuel line? and drop another pump into the tank?
