Hood (bonnet) question

Last time I was driving on the highway and suddenly the hood opened up thank god the E21 hood opens not from the front like regular cars.
So I wonder how this is possible. I closed it firmly and drive fast and it opened again.

When I try to open the hood with the switch from inside it does not do anything. So I think there is something wrong. Anybody knows more about this?

latch on the slam panel mIght need a tweak, or it might be the lever inside the glovebox that is not going fully home?

Clean the spring mechanism,under the hood on the front panel in front of the battery,with a bit of petrol and and brush.Then regrease it liberally.Should do the trick.
