its a straight swap to a certain degree............

you need to........

use existing exhaust manifold of e21 but the ports will be smaller so you need to widen these or consider after market manifold
use e21 mounts rather than e10 or e12
need to use the e21 carb but you will need to change the fueling. this or modify the 2002 carb to accept a cable throttle.
possibly change the waterpump - but i think this can be modified.
if possible you want the solid block mounted waterpipe of the e30 m10 engine
e30 m10 aluminium larger capacity sump

that should do the job :)

hold on a sec.......... is this going in an e30 or an e21? if e30 i think you need to go to e30 zone lol. all the above is the same however you can use the standerd e30 exhaust manifold as its already big port

Familybanger did register here for a short while when he planned to restore his 316. I assume that's what he bought the new engine for so it should a) fit and b) be a good engine. Certainly worth a punt at 70 quid anyway.

the only problems fitting a 2ltr m10 engine into a e30 are likely to be ...no 1..unless you swap the cam shaft to a later one you will have to use the points dizzy and coil ( cam spins the dizzy the oppossite way on later e21's and e30's)...no2 The bolt holes that hold the exhaust side engine mount to the block are differently spaced so you might have to weld up a new engine mount ..other than that early e30 318i manifolds ect will bolt straight on as it has larger ports .I have a feeling that e30 316 head had small ports like e21 316 1.8ltr so the inlet would not match the larger inlets of m10 2ltr (but i could be wrong!)..edd..

doesnt really matter that it spins the wrong way, just switch the leads around :)

still be easyer to mount the e30 head to the 2 litre block though
