Does it matter what people think.

If they think it's something it's not, then yes. I'd prefer them to know what it is rather than what it isn't which is why I'm bothering to research how it was supplied.

Anyone who know's their 21's will know what it is, everyone one else doesnt matter. Own it knowing you own something special, screw what others think.

doesnt matter what you like with a car as special as it is. it matters what the car itself should be. if it didnt leave twr with alpina striping then it shouldnt have it.

whether people know what it is or not doesnt matter one jot. it should be what it is. personally i hate all "m" badges and penis striping but if i had one it would wear what it should.

Met a man at me local dealer today and we ended up talkin e21 for about an hour. He said he remembered reading about a 335 and I told him about your motor. Have you got any more photos? I was wonderin about the spare 3.5 lump youve got. Did you wanna sell it? How much power can you get from an m30 lump with some flowin and a cam?

No, not yet anyway. I went over to Essex and dropped off all the parts I've been hoarding but the car was actually at the exhaust place. As soon as it's back from there work should be able to start on getting the shell rust proofed. There's quite a list of jobs to be done but I can't wait to have it back in one piece. I'll get over and take a load more photos as soon as it's back in the workshop.

I'm not sure about the power gains. TWR listed the engine as 240bhp spec on the invoice. AFAIK that was reached by fitting a new cam, skimming the head slightly and fitting the 6 branch manifold. We are doing the same work to the new head but also machining it to accept the larger e34 inlet valves. The goal is to make 260bhp and a bit more torque.

Been working on the exhaust system this week and the manifold from Fritz was poor fitting to say the least. It touched in several places and needed extensive modification in order to fit properly. Considering the price I'm not impressed.

Anyway, despite the added hassle of altering the manifold, the system is now finished. It looks great and cost less than the manifold did!

Next job is to get the head built up and rebuild the engine.

I would hope not but it might be worth bearing it in mind when you fit it the first time round. I just expected more.

Probably quicker to list where it wasn't touching tbh! I'm just glad I didn't go for their exhaust system too! Luckily for me, it doesn't clear the Alpina diff and I figured that if I'm going to have to pay for it to be altered, I may as well go for a bespoke system from the outset. Anyway, that's the biggest single job/expense out of the way now and the head is off having the valve seats machined, new guides & flow work prior to fitting the new camshaft.

It seems to DVLA have re-registered the car with it's original registration plate now too, so all of the history ties up nicely.
