I'm replacing the big-end shells on the M20 engine in my 323i. Now, the crankpins (the bolts on the bottom of the conrods that attach them to the crank): BMW quote two sizes, 44mm and 53mm. The Haynes manual quotes two sizes for standard & regrind that are similar in length to 44mm.
Can anyone elucidate for me?

Re: M20 big-end bolts
Real OEM has two different types: 53mm (no.9) and another (the left-hand one) where no length is quoted.
Looks like I'm gonna have to take one out and go down the dealers with it!

Re: M20 big-end bolts
id guess at the one on the right. just cus it looks right from when i had my old 320/6 engine in bits. the bolt going up i mean.
i stripped the conrods out of it to sell (130mm rods for 2.7 conversions) got £30odd quid for them on ebay.

i cant imagine 323i rods looking much different.
