A word of warning
After exchanging some messages with several members lately (believe I spoke to 5 people already) here's a serious word of warning:
Personal
People can have issues with each other, but don't fight them here on the forum.
Language
I see too much foul language here lately. Also think twice before placing links, pictures and avatar's. We don't want to offend people!
I never wanted to become a police officer and I really don't want to dig into any issues. I hope people here have the decency to keep this place clean, for enjoying our shared passion combined with a fair deal of fun. I'm also not planning to be more patient or understanding. In a next case, the user(s) in question will receive a permanent ban including a ban on all IP addresses used previously.

Re: A word of warning
I'd like to add one thing though, following some more PM's, so this is definitely not addressed to Murran but in general:
E21 world is a small world. Misbehavior, for instance in selling stuff, like not keeping to a fair trade policy, not sticking to agreements, charging rediculous prices, et cetera... that's something you can't hide in this small world and in that case one is bound to get negative responses. If that's your thing, you don't belong on an enthousiasts' website like this one.

Re: A word of warning
I personally haven't come upon a lot of threads where people go to far, so hopefully it's only a very small portion of what's going on here. I remember the thread with the pink / purple drifter from I believe Sweden though, and I can understand the poster left the forum.
What about the smiley jacking it?Jeroen wrote:Language

Re: A word of warning
I'm glad that we all have a different taste even though we all like E21's. That thread defo was one where respect was not shown at all. And the last thing I want is that this place would be something for the long time in-crowd only.Danny043 wrote:I personally haven't come upon a lot of threads where people go to far, so hopefully it's only a very small portion of what's going on here. If someone feels offended by that I'll remove it immediately. Won't delete the burning rubber smiley though, no matter how many tree huggers complain!Danny043 wrote:What about the smiley jacking it?

Re: A word of warning
Jeroen is right about this. We need to remember that this is a public forum, google indexes things even as we type them, it gets cached. What you write is permanent - unless armageddon wipes the whole internet out! Too many people, and it's mainly the native English speakers here, pepper their sentences with words beginning F and C. Would you write that on a piece of paper lying around for your mother to find? Your Kids?? We all use "industrial" language at times, but it has no place in writing in a public place.
Let's all show each other some respect, if someone posts their car and you don't like it either say "I don't like it" or probably better still jsut don't say anything. There's no prize for having the most posts, there are very knowledgable well respected forum members well down the post count list, they speak when it is worth doing.
Better to be silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and prove it to be true.
The welding forums I frequent have very thorough moderation, I myself have had posts removed that i thought were inoffensive but the rules said not. I would rather bmwe21.net stayed a friendly polite place without heavy duty moderation, the report post link being used for spam only, but if people misbehave then deleting posts and banning will have to happen.
Jim
PS added as an edit. I had to look up what the FAP smiley was, and I think it's a bit unnecessary.
PPS now realised that typing f a p without spaces puts the thing in!

Re: A word of warning
Thanks for these words of wisdom. I think most long time members have seen a development in the english forum already. The place is still fun, but it has become more of a UK forum than worldwide, many Aussie members aren't adding frequent flyer miles anymore and that's just an example. So let's all keep in mind how we all started off here and felt welcome, and felt we found a nice and useful place. Let's keep it that way for all.
I'll consider removing the smiley!

Re: A word of warning
Can't disagree with anything said so far and don't mean to flog a dead horse. That was one of the things I liked about this forum, people from all over the world with a common interest in one car. Now I find there are definite clique's. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it does make it a little intimidating for other people to post and while its nice to catch up with British E21 owners, I look forward to seeing cars from all over the world - I have got a left hand drive fascination at the end of the day!
Apologies if I've rubbed anyone up the wrong way, I have come on here now and again in a bad mood and of course that can come across in the tone of posts. I don't have any major beef with anyone though. I've met some really good people from here and also found a couple of idiots sadly. For the latter I think they should be put in their place, but live and let live if they've backed down. Life's short.
I'm not sure what the fap smiley is all about. I thought he was banging his fist on the table! I'll leave things on that note!

Re: A word of warning
Thanks for the input Jim and Arshad.
@Jeroen
My intention was not to have the smiley removed, but to show that things are relative.
What is foul language?
What are inappropriate posts, pictures, links, etc. ?
Is it not ok to use foul language, but ok to refer to masturbation?
Someone who uses a lot of foul language will themselves probably not judge that their language is foul, and be totally ok with the use of certain 'foul' words. If someone who's not ok with the use of those words can see this, they might not be offended by it. They can still dislike it.
I don't want the smiley removed, and I don't want that to be the result of my comment. I wóuld like it better if the smiley was removed though. But better doesn't mean that right now it's wrong. Keep the smiley for now

Re: A word of warning
its all a matter of opinion i think. some people may find it offensive, some may find it appropriate. it all depends on your attitude and how you were brought up. personally i dont see anything wrong with it as long as you dont go too far, i dont like it when things are too formal.

Re: A word of warning
I'd just like to say that despite not owning an E21 anymore (for now)...I still like to come on here and see what people are up to and what's about...it's an easy way to spend my half hour lunch break at work and everyone on here has been totally welcoming to me.
Banter is all fun and I've not personally seen anyone take it too far...
This is a great site and has a nice world-wide community which is refreshing and interesting to see what is going on outside of the UK...
I've made some good friends on here and can't wait to get back in the game with my own again!

Re: A word of warning
I own a rusty E30 and I am still dreaming about a E21 and I still come here.
First fix my E30 to make it a daily driver and then get a E21 for sunday car, but not drive it like a sunday driver
As for issues, anyone that knows me personally, know that I am direct and sometimes I say things a bit brutally, but I think being honnest is best... even if I might scratch someone with it.
and if I have an issue with someone I'll go to them directly, preferably in person or by phone. Or get someone they know personally get to them to tell them to get to me.

Re: A word of warning
OK high time for an update from my side!
I don't want to start a discussion on the definition of foul or inappropriate but using the f*** word is a good example and I remove that one almost on a daily basis. I'm close to banning a few words... didn't want to go that far. I think we're all old and wise enough to decide what is fair or not, imho there is no reason to start posting a lot of bad language at all. Just think of how many, and many different, people visit this place.
I can only agree on some comments on the fap icon and it doesn't do my previous words of warning right. It is removed, but I also placed a whole bunch of fun new ones, so there's something new to play with. More later perhaps but this is what I just added:

...I absolutely LOVE:
and
hehehe...
Even if this forum has an abundant touch of "dutch tolerance", It has indeed to be told that even if we talk about something warmed and lubed, being motor cars, that it should be kept there
