E36 Evo engine, doable or too much hassle?

Post by Dod »

I can get my hands on a complete car if needed but is it a viable conversion or simply too much trouble?

Could be awesome but you'll need to swap diff too aswell as lots of other fabrication for gearbox etc. I'm sure Jason etc can fill you in on details.
A well built m20 is great fun and way cheaper.

an m20 is never gonna be as good as a screaming 24v with 320HP.

the principle of this conversion will be just like any m50 swap. it is do able but make no mistake its a ball ache, no two swaps are the same, so you end up doing it your own way. you willneed to strenghten the car, custom rear end etc.

I do agree with mark that an m20 is farr more simple, n way way cheaper.

i run the idea of an m3 evo engine in my motor through my head but talked myself out of it on the grounds that that it wouldn't really benefit anything over an m3 and i love e36 m3's especially estoril blue with grey leather and polished dish sunflowers. so i'll be building a 2.7 engine for mine next year. i've heard they are brilliant fun great low end torque and sort of original to the motor. but if you could get your hands on the whole car then the swap would be a little simpler.
